The Why Stars? Edition
When his mortal twin brother Castor had been killed Pollux turned to his divine father Zeus asking him for permission to share his own immortality with Castor. Zeus consented and since then the twin brothers spent alternate days in Hades and on Olympus. And they gained immortality as the sign of Gemini in the zodiac. In ancient Rome Castor and Pollux were regarded as the protective gods of horse riding.
